Constables Neil Cheyne and Andrew Ward have gone back to school - as part of a partnership initiative with police and Clackmannanshire Council.

The two officers will be based at Lornshill Academy and Alloa Academy and took up their post on Monday 15th April, as the schools returned from the Easter holidays.

Clackmannanshire Area Commander Chief Inspector Stevie Sneddon said: "School based officers form a valuable part of community policing and this is another way of policing and providing support to our communities.

"The officers' involvement with young people within the school environment is essential, not only in preventing crime and enhancing safety but in fostering good relations. We are already aware that other schools have seen positive results from enhanced engagement with the officers and reduced truancy."

The partnership initiative between police in the Forth Valley Division and the three local councils have seen the number of officers increase throughout the Forth Valley.

The idea behind the initiative is to strengthen the relationship between schools, police and the community.

Officers are already based in Larbert, Denny, Wallace, Bannockburn, the Braes, Grangemouth and Falkirk High Schools.

Chief Superintendent Davie Flynn said: "I am pleased to see that this initiative has proved successful. We now have nine officers based in schools throughout the Forth Valley Division.

"The introduction of school based officers has proved popular and has enhanced existing positive learning environments for young people. They also form an essential part of crime prevention and community safety around these schools."

Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "Campus-based police officers will offer pupils, teachers and other members of the school community excellent support and reduce crime, bullying and truancy. We welcome Constable Ward at Alloa Academy and Constable Cheyne at Lornshill and look forward to working with them both."
