Clackmannanshire Council's Ranger Service are calling for local people of to pull on their wellies and yellow tabards and join the Mid-week Volunteers to help spring clean at Gean Wood Pond on Wednesday, 24th April.

Tired of the crisp bags, juice bottles and other litter that is spoiling the pond and Gean Wood the Rangers are preparing for the annual pond clean-up.

Volunteers should meet at Gean House, adjacent to Tullibody Road, at 11am. Its going to get muddy and wet so old clothes and suitable footwear are advisable. The clean-up will run until 3pm. No booking is required, just turn up. Equipment will be provided.

The Mid-week Volunteer Group is open to anyone over-18 who is interested in the countryside and wants to do something practical to improve it for wildlife and people. The group is run by Clackmannanshire Ranger Service and each task will be led by one of the Rangers.

As well as pond clearing the Group will also tackle the Rhododendrons in the surrounding area. Volunteers are asked to bring Wellington boots or waders if possible.

The group meet on the last Wednesday of every month from 11am -- 3pm.

Enterprise and Environment Convener, Councillor Donald Balsillie, said: "The tasks carried out are varied. Some tasks are aimed at improving access to the countryside while others are aimed at enhancing the biodiversity of the area.

"We want to encourage as many volunteers as possible to come and take part in our spring clean. We hope our clean-up will show others that we have pride in Clackmannanshire and by working together we can take responsibility for our surroundings and show that dropping litter is unacceptable."

Full instruction will be given for each task by a member of the experienced Ranger Service

Last April more than 83,000 volunteers took part in clean up events as part of Keep Scotland Beautiful National Spring Clean. And they gathered enough litter to fill 42,000 standard wheelie bins - proving that even each individual volunteer's small contribution really does make a huge difference.

There is no need to book to come out on any of the Ranger Service tasks, but if you would like a programme or further information contact the Rangers on 01259 450000 of email rangers@clacks.gov.uk.
