Clackmannanshire Council has secured £147,000 funding from Sport Scotland to take forward Community Sport Hubs in Clackmannanshire.
Community sport hubs are Sport Scotland's contribution to the Scottish Government's 2014 legacy plan, and are an exciting and innovative approach to the development of sport in local clubs.
Three Community Sport Hubs are being set up across Clackmannanshire. The first will be in place, based at Lornshill Academy, by this autumn, followed by Alva Academy by June 2014 and then Alloa Academy by March 2015.
The Hubs are designed to increase the number of people of all ages participating in sport in communities across Clackmannanshire.
Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, welcoming the new initiative, said: "Community sport hubs aim to provide a welcome and safe place and more opportunities for people to take part in sport.
"The hubs will be a home where a range of local sports clubs can work together and improve access for local people and sports clubs at affordable prices."
The first information meeting was held this week at Lornshill Academy, where nine local clubs or groups took part, including representatives from rugby, cricket, archery, gymnastics and martial arts.
"We are delighted with the initial response," added Councillor Forson. "A good range of sports and groups came along to a presentation from Sport Scotland about the national picture and the success of sport hubs so far across the country.
"Each hub throughout Clackmannanshire will be unique and based upon local needs."
Another meeting will take place at Lornshill Academy on Wednesday 1st May, when a Forum will be set-up, comprising representatives of the clubs and groups who have already registered an interest, as well as other sports clubs, who are expected to join the Hub. It is an Open Meeting, with clubs, groups involved in sport invited to come along. It will take place between 6pm until 8pm.
The Forum will plan how best to market and promote their clubs and sports. There will be a strong emphasis on encouraging volunteers and families to come along and take part in sport. The first hub is to be called the Lornshill Campus Community Sports Hub.
