Clackmannanshire Council has secured £1.225 million funding from the Scottish Government which will provide massive help to 100 households, assist them hugely slash their fuel bills and at the same time increase heat.

The grant funding will provide people living in the non-traditionally built properties in Clackmannanshire with new energy efficiency measures which will help to reduce fuel costs and make the homes warmer for the residents.

Welcoming the news, Housing Convener Councillor Les Sharp said: "It is absolutely fantastic news for Clackmannanshire and in particular for these 100 households, who will benefit greatly from this funding. We are well ahead of other local authorities in achieving funding of this nature. This boost follows in the footstep of the massive number of homes in the past year which have benefitted from new bathrooms, kitchens, central heating and external cladding."

This new initiative is being carried out in partnership with Eddison Energy and Npower who have contributed to the overall funding of the project under the Government's National Retrofit Programme.

The 100 properties which will benefit from the cash boost are in Alloa, Sauchie and Forestmil and include 70 Council-owned properties and 30 owner occupiers.

The funding will allow work to be carried out, including loft insulation top ups and external thermal wall insulation being installed in houses in Scott Crescent, Alloa; Menteith Court Alloa; Schaw Court, Sauchie; and Parklands Place, Forestmill.

In addition the homes in Menteith Court will be fitted with solar panels which will provide a source of free electricity to the residents. The installation of these panels on Council owned houses will be a pioneering first for Clackmannanshire Council.

The Council is also in negotiations with the Government to provide air source heat pump technology - a renewable energy heating system - for Council tenants living in Forestmill and Muckart who are currently not connected to the gas network.

Improvement works are due to start on the houses in Scott Crescent, Alloa later this month. The overall programme of work is due to be completed by 30th June, 2013.

Tenants and owners benefitting from this project have been invited to an information sharing day at Alloa Town Hall this Thursday 4th April between 10am and 8pm. This is a chance for residents to find our more from both the Council and the contractor Edison Energy .

Clackmannanshire Council has been striving to maximise external grant opportunity for both tenants and owners from the Scottish Government and energy providers.

This project follows hard on the heels of successful projects in the Bowmar in Alloa and in the Carseview area of Tullibody.
