Katie Gibson and Erin KeirLornshill Academy pupils Katie Gibson and Erin Keir performed in front of a packed audience with world famous Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow on Friday 22nd March.

Katie, who is in S3 and Erin, from S4, joined over 100 young violinists from schools from all over Scotland, having applied directly to Nicola for the opportunity.

Katie, who is currently studying violin at grade 4, had the honour of being 1st violin and Erin is currently studying at Grade 6.

They played intermezzo from Cavalleno Rusticana. Both Katie and Erin said the experience was "amazing".

Erin said: "It was nerve wracking but it was inspiring too. Nicola played for us before she joined us and she helped us so much to improve, giving us tips to make our performance as good as it could be."

Katie added: "Nicola was so approachable and patient. She really understood what it is like to be a young musician. We both really enjoyed the experience."

Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson met the two young violinists at Lornshill on Monday.

Councillor Forson said: "They should be rightly proud of their fantastic achievements in being among an elite number of school children, having the opportunity to play alongside such a famous violinist as Nicola Benedetti, and at such a wonderful venue as the Royal Concert Hall. On behalf of the Council I would like to offer Katie and Erin my congratulations and wish them all the best for the future."
