Children from St. John's Primary and Claremont Primary will take part later this week in an exciting combined event in the lead up to the schools being joined to become Redwell Primary.

This Friday, 22nd March between 10am and 12pm, the pupils will be working together to design artwork that will cover the hoarding boards surrounding the building site of their new merged school, which will be called Redwell Primary.

The hoarding boards will comprise large panels that surround the building site and contain the construction work where the new school is being built.

As part of a comprehensive education plan to merge two school together, staff and pupils have been working in partnership with Gemma Nicoll, the Community Benefits Officer for Robertson's construction.

In the lead up to Friday's event she will visit both schools and introduce the concept of hoarding boards and the design activity.

To make the artwork meaningful and relevant to Curriculum for Excellence and the creation of the new merged learning community the design theme chosen is SHANARRI (Safe, Healthy, Active, Nurtured, Achieving, Respected, Responsible, Included).

Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "Both schools strive to encourage and develop these Health & Wellbeing themes within each individual and across our practice and school ethos.

"Together these themes form the building blocks of Curriculum for Excellence and the capacities of Successful Learners, Confident Individuals, Effective Contributors and Responsible Citizens."

Children from both schools will work together in age groups taking part in activities to experience each of the SHANARRI themes then creating a poster to display their learning.

Half of each class will walk to the other school at approximately 9.40am to begin a design session that will run between 10am and 12noon.

Class teachers from both schools have worked together to create the activities and will lead groups on the day.

They will be holding banners depicting each of the SHANARRI themes in the form of Superhero characters.
