Clackmannanshire's Ranger Service starts its 2013 Mid-week Volunteer Group programme this week.

To kick of the new season the Ranger Service will be doing some much needed work at the Delph Pond in Tullibody on Wednesday 27th March.

Enterprise and Environment Convener, Councillor Donald Balsillie said: "The pond is a much used local resource, but is sadly affected by lots of litter. The Ranger Service will be cleaning up the pond and doing some work on the swan nesting area. They are looking for volunteers to come along and not just help out but play an important role in improving our community."

The group will be meeting at the Delph Pond parking area at 11am. Volunteers should bring wellington boots or waders, if they have them, as well as a packed lunch and a drink. Warm waterproof clothing is essential. The work should be finished by 3pm.

The Mid-week Volunteer Group is open to anyone over 18 who is interested in the countryside and wants to do something practical to improve it for both wildlife and people. The group is run by Clackmannanshire's Ranger Service and each task will be led by one of the experienced Rangers.

The group meets once a month on a Wednesday from 11am - 3pm. The tasks carried out are varied. Some are aimed at improving access to the countryside while others are targeted at enhancing the area. Full instruction will be given for each task.

There is the opportunity for volunteers to attend first aid courses and other training, all free of charge.

There is no need to book to come out on any of the tasks, but if you would like a programme or further information contact the rangers on 01259 450000 or email them at rangers@clacks.gov.uk.
