Clackmannanshire Council's bathroom replacement programme, which began last August has proved to be a huge success with tenants all over the county.

One delighted tenant, Ron Johnstone, of Woodburn Drive, Alloa, said: "They did a really good job, in fact a lovely job I would say, with absolutely no mess, everything was left in perfect condition. I couldn't be happier. It is a lot better than the bathroom I had before. I can't thank the Council and the workmen enough for the terrific job they did."

In the past year 563 households have had their bathroom upgraded to modern standards as part of the first year of a four year deal with the contractor MITIE. The Council will also undertake upgrades from next year to assure the programme continues.

Housing Convener, Councillor Les Sharp said: "This work will ensure that Council properties attain both the Scottish Housing Quality Standard and the higher Local Clackmannanshire Standard commitment agreed at Council in 2006.

"Works have been progressing well and the scope of works include a replacement bath, wash hand basin, replacement taps, the fitting of wall boarding around the bath area and the fitting of an electric shower, all to a high standard with excellent workmanship."

To reduce condensation problems in bathrooms, works include the fitting of a low voltage mechanical extract fan fitted to the bathroom wall.

The improvements also includes the bathrooms being fully decorated with blown vinyl paper, painted and a vinyl flooring is also laid. And in addition new light fittings are also fitted .

Councillor Sharp added: "Our tenants are also given a choice of wall boarding, decoration features and different colour flooring."

In year 2013/14, an additional 1,150 bathrooms will be upgraded throughout Clackmannanshire moving towards our 2015 Scottish Housing Quality Standard targets.

If tenants have a disability or other additional needs, the Council's occupational therapists will assess whether requirements can be met via the bathroom programme.
