Claremont Primary School's project this term on the Scottish Parliament culminated with a visit to the Parliament itself followed by a visit to the school by Clackmannanshire and Dunblane MSP Keith Brown.
This term P5 and P6 have been working together on a project focussing on the Scottish Parliament, but all aimed at educational priorities such as mathematics, English and IT learning skills.
Throughout the topic, the children have been working in cross-class co-operative groups, using a variety of learning resources including lap tops and the internet.
The children have been learning how Parliaments and Governments are formed, about regions and constituencies, the role of MPs and MSPs, the process of electing MPs and political parties and how elections are organised.
They will apply their learning and create their own political parties with their own manifesto and logo. The children will campaign and an election will be held where the rest of the school will vote.
The children visited the Scottish Parliament last Friday and then on Monday enjoyed an informative visit from Mr Brown and the Council's Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson.
Mr Brown gave them an informative talk about how the Scottish Parliament works and his role in it, as well as answering a number of well thought out questions from the pupils.
Mr Brown said: "One of the best parts of my job is visiting local schools and it was a pleasure to visit Claremont Primary.
"It was clear from the questions I was asked by the pupils that they have a keen interest in politics and in what the role of an MSP entails."
