An event which will showcase the designs for the new Redwell Primary School will be held next week.

The new school will create a 21st century learning environment which will house pupils from St John's and Claremont Primary Schools.

The £8.6 million new primary school will be built at Redwell. The Council has been allocated funding of £4.05 million from the Scottish Government Schools for the Future programme for the new building.

Last month the Council unanimously approved the new name for the school which had been suggested by pupils.

Staff from both schools, as well as Parent Councils and pupil representatives have been involved in designing the new school.

Now parents and members of the wider school community are invited to attend a showcase from 7-9pm on Tuesday 12th March in Alloa Town Hall when the latest plans and designs will be on show.

The event will be a celebration of the behind-the-scenes work that has taken place to create a school which meets the needs of pupils and staff from both Claremont and St John's.

Councillor Ellen Forson, Education, Sport and Leisure Convenor said: "A fantastic amount of information will be available on the evening, from how the pupils came up with the new name and how the playground designs have evolved, to the creative process staff have gone through to come up with a new shared ethos for Redwell as well as the travel plan and the eco plan for the new building.

"There will also be a chance to see the latest designs and artists' impressions, which I'm sure parents will be impressed with. The event will also be a chance to find out more about the new blog which has been created for the project."

The lead contractor will be Robertson's Construction. The architects are Keppie Design, with the civil and the structural engineers Blyth & Blyth. Wallace Whittle have been appointed mechanical and electrical engineers. Work is expected to begin on site next month.

There will be 18 classrooms in the modern energy-efficient building, which will be sufficient to accommodate the projected roll of 434 pupils when the school is due to open its doors for the first time in August 2014. This will also meet the projected future increases in roll due to additional house building in the catchment area.
