Banchory Primary School Kickathon

Banchory Primary School pupils in primaries five and six have just completed a one month
fundraising challenge entitled 'Micro-Tyco'.

It was a competition where the children received £1 capital and had to turn it into as much money as possible throughout the month of February.

The pupils have had to use their imagination and creativity in order to generate an enterprising idea that has been profitable in the given timeframe.

The Banchory pupils made phone calls and wrote formal letters to local businesses to form successful partnerships and encourage profit.

One of the other events during the month was a Kickathon.

Cerys Stoddart in primary six used her initiative to contact the Scottish Martial Arts Centre in Tullibody where she arranged a challenge for the pupils to complete 1000 kicks in return for a voucher that the school could raffle. The funds from the raffle generated money for the cause and at the same time increased the profile of the S.M.A.C centre with the school pupils.

Ryan Whyte in primary six said: "Before the event we had to pace ourselves so we didn't use all our energy before we got to the kickathon.

"When we arrived, we had to take our shoes off and do warm up exercises so we didn't hurt ourselves. The coach showed us what to do and then we got started. Some of it was easy but as it got harder we had to persevere to get through it.

"We were building the skill of not giving up and finish what you start. I think I did that. I had never been there before but I'd like to go again and try a class."

Travis Greener, also in primary six, added: "When I got there I was excited because I had never tried to do 1000 kicks before. The start was easy because I had lots of energy to do it. When my legs were getting tired I thought I couldn't do it but I knew I had to finish the challenge."

Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson this week commended the efforts of everyone at Banchory PS for their month long efforts.

Councillor. Forson said: "It has been a wonderful effort by all involved at Banchory Primary to have raised this money throughout February, especially when they did it through using their own initiative and business endeavours. I would like to congratulate them all."
