Eight pupils from Alva Academy have won through to the National Finals of the We-CTV Premiere Awards Ceremony to be held at: Glasgow Science Centre, Glasgow, on
Wednesday 20th March 2013.
The event is run by the Scottish Youth Parliament with the aim of showcasing the fantastic work of all the groups involved and an important reminder of the dangers of knife crime.
The school pupils who produced the video at Alva Academy, entitled "No Knives Better Lives" were: Freya Baxter, Iona Baxter, Aiden Briggs, Jennie Bain, Chloe Howard, Andrew Dunbar, Jason Rodgers and Zoe Reed.
Vice-Convener of Education, Councillor Walter McAdam, who this week went along to the school to congratulate the pupils, said: "I would like to congratulate each one of the pupils for all their hard work in creating the video clip and proceeding to the final stages of this prestigious national competition."
Head Teacher, Sharee MacKerron, said: "It is yet another great achievement for our young people.
"Everyone is very proud of the individual and collective talents of those involved in its production and excited for them that it will be showcased nationally."
The finals night will be hosted by Sanjeev Kohli, (Navid from Still Game), who will announce the Gold and Silver winners from each Region and then the Overall Winner. The awards will be presented by Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill MSP.
As well as seeing their film on the IMAX cinema screen guests will also be treated to a very special performance from Kevin McGuire, a very talented singer/songwriter from Glasgow who is currently on tour with the X-Factor.
