Clackmannanshire Council played host to two major badminton events on the one day.

The first Regional Schools Badminton competition was held In a combined event on the day with the Annual Clackmannanshire badminton tournament, both of which were the mechanism for qualifying to represent the Central area in the National Secondary Schools Championship finals at the Bells Sports Centre, Perth on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th March and the National Primary Schools Championship finals at the Bells Sports Centre, Perth, on Saturday 27th April.

Such was the terrific turn out, with 200 primary and secondary pupils from Clackmannanshire, Stirling and Falkirk schools, taking part that the events were played across two venues - Alva Academy and Lornshill Academy.

The competition was fierce in all the age groups but particularly in the two biggest categories: primary five to seven boys and the secondary one to three boys.

The categories which took place on the day for both boys and girls were in: P1-P4, P5-P7, S1-S3, S4-S6

Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "Many talented young players gave great performances and are players with future potential.

"I would like to thank the Young Ambassadors, coaches and Clackmannanshire Council Sports Development Staff who organised, refereed and managed the results and particularly to Badminton Scotland for endorsing the event.

"There has been great interest and support for this event. It is hoped that it will take place each year."
