Claremont Primary supported the valuable work of Clackmannanshire's Breathe Easy Support Group, part of the British Lung Foundation charity.

The charity aims to provide life saving equipment such as oximeters and nebulisers to local health centres.

The logo of the charity is a red balloon so during February the school are helping to raise awareness of lung health by taking part in a poster design competition, a helium balloon release and a 'Go Red' Day. Breathe Easy was also the recipient of the schools Christmas service collection.

Go Red Day took place on Friday 8th February when children and staff were invited to make a donation and 'Go Red' by coming to school on dressed or decorated in something red.

The pupil council have been busy promoting the events and each class took part in learning activities to raise awareness of lung health and the respiratory system.

Linda McLeod, the chairperson of Clackmannanshire's Breathe Easy group attended a special assembly on the day and announced the winners of the school poster competition to promote the work of the charity.

The winners from each class then released a red helium balloon in the playground. An assembly took place followed by the balloon release.

Councillor Ellen Forson, Convener of Education, Sport and Leisure, said: "As a Health Promoting School we actively encourage and teach our children to make healthy choices, to enable them to become healthy, active and emotionally resilient young people of the future. We continue to create opportunities to raise awareness of health themes throughout the year.

"This term the theme is 'Healthy Hearts and Lungs' and this links perfectly to the valuable work of the British Lung Foundation."
