Fishcross Primary School pupils this week welcomed Transport Minister Keith Brown MSP to the school.
The P6/7 pupils, currently studying The Scottish Parliament and looking forward to developing their learning within a real context, were delighted when the Minister accepted their invitation to come along and speak to them.
The children prepared questions before his visit so that they could further develop their knowledge and understanding of how a democracy operates, the function of the Scottish Parliament and the aims and policies of the various political parties and MSPs within the parliament.
Mr Brown was given a warm welcome by the P6/P7 assembly before giving a talk to the children on the workings of the Scottish Parliament, followed by a question and answer session.
He was accompanied to the school by Council Leader Gary Womersley and Convener of Education, Councillor Ellen Forson.
The children are staging their own election campaign later in the term. They will be debating a local issue and inviting parents to listen to their arguments before they cast their vote.
Councillor Forson said: "This project develops children's understanding of society and Scotland's place in it. It encourages citizenship in pupils, helping them to make informed decisions and take an active part in society whilst continuing to develop the four capacities of Curriculum for Excellence."
