Gubber Hill Restored

Work to restore land at Gubber Hill, following the damage caused by a series of planning breaches in September, 2011, has been carried out by Clackmannanshire Council.

The site, which lies between Alloa and Tullibody, was significantly damaged as a result of the positioning of caravans and showground equipment. Council officers instigated formal enforcement action at the time.

Trees felled on the site were not covered by a Tree Preservation Order and therefore not protected under planning legislation enforced by the Council. The owner failed to apply for or obtained a Felling Licence from the Forestry Commission. The Forestry Commission investigated the matter, and took the matter to court.

Councillor Donald Balsillie, Enterprise and Environment Convener, said: "The Council received numerous calls from concerned residents at the time this illegal felling took place which prompted the Council to take enforcement action against the owner when he failed to apply for planning permission in relation to other developments at the site.

"I am delighted that work has now been completed to redress the damage to Gubber Hill. The contract for the work was put out to tender and won by the Council's Land Contract Service. The Council will be seeking to recover the costs from the owner."

To maintain public and pupil safety, the Council at the time also issued a Traffic Order to prevent vehicles using the section of footpath to the Lornshill Academy entrance from Ormiston Drive in the morning, lunchtime and afternoon when pupils are arriving at and leaving the school.
