Lornshill Academy will host a Career Options and Opportunities Event later this month when pupils from all over Clackmannanshire will have the chance to meet with a wide range of professionals who can assist with progressions beyond school.

The event will give pupils the opportunity to learn about the skills needed to enter an ever changing world of work and to raise awareness of post school opportunities.

The event will take place on Thursday, 24th January from 12noon until 3.45pm for all Lornshill Academy senior pupils and will then be open from 4.30pm to 7pm for parents and pupils for all three Clackmannanshire secondary schools, Lornshill, Alloa Academy and Alva Academy.

Education, Sport and Leisure Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "As part of Clackmannanshire Councils 'Excellence for All Education' strategy, the aim is to raise pupils awareness and ambitions of the many different opportunities available to pupils on leaving school".

"With local and national representation in attendance there will be a chance to find out more about training, apprenticeships, employment, further education and higher education from the experts."

There will be around 30 representatives at the career event, including training providers, Skills Development Scotland, modern apprenticeship providers, higher and further education establishments, career specific organisations, volunteering and young enterprise organisations.

Among the many organisations who will be represented at the event will be: Clackmannanshire Works, Clackmannanshire Council Sports Development, Forth Valley College, the universities of Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian, Stirling, Napier and Abertay, and both the police and fire services.

Councillor Forson added: "It is a great opportunity for our senior pupils to speak to the people who can give them the right advice about qualifications and career progression."
