Parents, teachers, staff and pupils at St John's Primary School in Alloa were thrilled by the performances of the primary one to three classes, who performed their nativity play "Away in a Manger" this week.

The play was held on each of two days in front of appreciative audiences, who gave the young children a standing ovation for their excellent efforts.

The storyline of the St John's Primary School play was set in the stable in Bethlehem, where Maurice the mule lived. Maurice didn't like sharing his manger until a very special baby was born in the stable.

Education Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "The children performed the Nativity play three times over the two days and worked very hard to tell this very special story to families and friends. The teachers should be very proud of all the children."
