Craigbank Primary School pupils recently celebrated St Andrew's day in style, with a day of fun and frolics, but all with an educational theme.

Each section of the school was given a homework task to complete over a few weeks. Primary one to three had to use recycled materials and make a sporran, highland cow or haggis.

Primary four to six had to research a famous Scottish personality, past or present, and show this in an innovative way. The winners are displayed in the window of Busy Bee, Main Street, Sauchie. Primary seven were also asked to write a cartoon strip to depict the story of St. Andrew.

Just before St Andrew's Day the children were also involved in various exciting activities. P1 and 2 learned how to make soup, pancakes and shortbread then had fun tasting them.

P3 and 4 were introduced to Gaelic and enjoyed learning some basic phrases and songs., while P4/5 and P5 were introduced to fusion dancing.

P6 created a map of Scotland, using all the children's photographs, to show how they are all part of Scotland. All children were asked to bring in change and this was used to see how many counties they could cover.

Primary seven spent the day working with puppeteer Sylvia Troon , making puppets to help create a shadow puppet show to re-enact the St Andrew's story. The rest of the school were invited to watch.

Education convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "I must congratulate the school in the way they approached the project and the innovative ways they used to research and study our patron saint."

The Healthy tuck shop also joined in the activities selling oatcakes and breadsticks with honey.

The children were showing how they are able to transfer their skills and learn in new situations.
