The first youth New Age Bowls Festival took place at Tullibody Civic Centre last Thursday.

The Clackmannanshire Bowls Forum has been instrumental in developing bowling for young people. This indoor version of the game attracted over 60 pupils.

Pupils from various primary school included children with additional support needs from Park Primary School and Alloa Academy along with pupils from Clackmannan, St. John's and Sunnyside Primary Schools.

This festival followed on from a six week block of coaching delivered to the pupils by volunteers from local bowling clubs working in partnership with Clackmannanshire Council's Active Schools Team.

At the festival pupils moved around six stations that helped to highlight and show their skills at judging the speed and curve of bowling.

Points were allocated to pupils based on their performance at each station; the winning school from the festival was St. John's Primary School, who received their winners certificate.

Sport and Leisure Committee Convener, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: " The event was a great success with all children enjoying themselves. Bowling is a great additional activity and compliments the range of sports delivered within primary PE and the Active Schools after school clubs"

The festival was organised by Active Schools and Sports Development staff but it could not have been such a success without the support of six volunteers from Alloa Bowling Club, Alloa East End Bowling Club and Dollar Bowling Club.

The organisers would like to extend sincere thanks to the club volunteers, the Young Leaders from Alloa Academy and parents and staff who supported the event and helped the pupils.
