Food Safety Warning

The Food Standards Agency has alerted all Local Authorities about some food products sold in the U.K. which have been found to contain chilli powder illegally contaminated with the dye SUDAN I, a chemical which could cause cancer although there is no immediate threat of illness and those most at risk would be people eating contaminated products regularly over a long time.
Action has been taken by the Council Food Team to alert the retail and catering trade of the problem with a view to effecting immediate withdrawal.
As this is the type of product that will be bought by people and used in small quantities over a fairly long period it has been decided to publish details of the affected products to enable people to check their cupboards for any products.
RAJAH BRAND SEASONING MIXES
The Rajah brand products listed below have been identified as containing Sudan I. The company have undertaken a full trade withdrawal of the products with any BEST BEFORE END DATES UP UNTIL 18TH JULY 2005 from all their customers.
Any product with a Best Before End date of 18.07.2005 or after this date is confirmed to be made with chilli powder that is clear of Sudan I.
HP Foods Limited have set up a helpline to address customer enquiries. The Rajah Consumer Services team can be contacted on 08000721122 and the company will arrange collection and reimbursement of the consumer's costs.
Only the undernoted products are affected no other Rajah products are affected.

These products are retailed in 100gm and 400gm packets with the Tandoori Masala also being available in 100gm tins. These sizes and larger sizes (1kg & 8kg) are also sold through wholesalers in packets with Tandoori Masala also available in tubs.
SHAWS BRAND PRODUCTS
The company have undertaken a trade withdrawal of the retail size products with any BEST BEFORE END DATE UP 01.02.2006 and of the Food Service (Catering) size with any BEST BEFORE END DATE BEFORE JULY 04.
