A group of Clackmannanshire's up-and-coming rugby stars have received a full new kit and are ready for action

The Alloa Rugby School Programme has been running since the start of the school year, with primary seven pupils in the Alloa cluster going through a selection process before the summer.

Clackmannanshire Council's Convener of Education, Councillor Ellen Forson, explained: "There were 15 successful candidates 13 boys and two girls. The 15 members of the Rugby School Programme are given the opportunity to train in a sporting environment on a daily basis, including three rugby sessions per week during the school day and one after school."

The programme will continue into second year at secondary school for these selected pupils. This programme is designed to not only improve participants rugby skills and physical competencies, but to also develop their social skills such as confidence, communication, discipline and respect.

These sessions are delivered by the Scottish Rugby Union through the Council's Rugby Sports Development Officer, Stevie Swindall, and rugby modern apprentice Martin McKenzie, whose modern apprenticeship was organised in partnership between the Council and the SRU.

As part of the programme the pupils this week received a full set of training kit presented by Councillor Forson.

The schools have strong links with Alloa Rugby Club and this will continue with the club supporting the Rugby School Programme.
