Clackmannanshire football fans are being urged to join the Hampden roar this Saturday when Scotland's women's team take on Spain in the UEFA European Championship play-off.

Scotland's women's team qualified for one of the play-off matches and are gearing up to win a place in the UEFA Women's Finals in Sweden 2013.

Saturday's game, which kicks off at 2pm, is the first leg against Spain. The winners over the two matches will move on to the Finals in Sweden.

Clackmannanshire Council's Convener of Education, Sport and Leisure, Councillor Ellen Forson said: "This is a huge match for our Women's National Team and I hope the people of Clackmannanshire can play their part and help generate a healthy crowd at Hampden. Entry to the match is free at the turnstiles. We need as big a support as we can possibly muster."

This will be the first time the Women's National Team will have had the chance to play at Hampden Park. Being such a huge venue, they need support to come from all over the country, and in great numbers.

Evidence has shown that countries who qualify for the finals have gone on to benefit from an increase in participation levels. It has also generated an increase in media support for the game, raised profile of the women's game and created more commercial interest in the sport.

Success over the two legs would also put women's football in Scotland on a higher standing in the country and increase profile for homegrown role models.

Councillor Forson added: " We want as many people from Clackmannanshire to come and get behind the team. To qualify for Sweden would have a fantastic impact for the game in Scotland."
