A DVD is to be launched later this month aimed at tackling the increasing level of doorstep crime, which will hopefully lead to an upsurge in prosecutions of bogus callers.

The Clackmannanshire Doorstep Crime Partnership was set up in 2010 and consists of a number of agencies including Trading Standards, Central Scotland Police, Signpost Recovery, Neighbourhood Watch Scotland and a number of Community Councils.

The Partnership was set up due to an increasing number of incidents where people were targeted in their own homes by criminals claiming to be roofers, builders, tree surgeons and many other types of traders who cold call.

It was also revealed that there was a rise in the number of scam mailings, emails and telephone calls that people were constantly receiving.

Convener of Enterprise and Environment, Councillor Donald Balsillie, said: "The Doorstep Crime Initiative is important for all our communities because it addresses a growing area of crime which hits the elderly and vulnerable."

The Partnership have designed a Doorstep Crime DVD which will be launched on Thursday 25th October 2012 in Parklands Hall, Alva.

The DVD is designed to be used as a training tool as well as raising awareness of doorstep crime.

Councillor Balsillie added: "At the launch we will ask for volunteers and those concerned about door step crime to attend a training session. People attending the training session will get their own copy of the DVD so that they can pass on the information particularly to the elderly and vulnerable."

The launch is open to all members of the public and everyone is welcome. It begins at 10am.
