All residents returned to Menstrie House this week after the burn at Menstrie burst its banks on Wednesday evening 29th August, causing flood damage to the Clackmannanshire Council run House.

Residents were initially evacuated to Ludgate House as a "rest centre" with a view to finding alternative places for them in other care establishments.

On Monday, 25th September, the residents were welcomed back by Clackmannanshire Council's Convenor of Housing, Health and Care, Councillor Les Sharp, who helped with the evacuation of the House the evening of the flood.

Councillor Sharp said: "I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to staff from a range of services for the exemplary management of the situation that evening. It is with the greatest delight and pleasure that I welcome all the residents back to Menstrie House, and hope that any disruption to their normal every day lives was kept to a minimum.

"I am extremely happy that the residents have now been able to return to their more familiar surroundings and that the repair work to the House, following the flooding, has been done quickly and to an extremely high standard."

Operational staff from Clackmannanshire Council's social care staff, facilities management and roads teams were swiftly on the scene to manage the incident that evening in accordance with emergency planning procedures.

All of the 38 Menstrie House residents were found new accommodation swiftly and successfully.

The Council's Older People Care Service quickly found alternative accommodation in other care homes within Clackmannanshire and all staff who normally care for these residents remained with them to ensure the minimum of disruption to their normal routines.

The area to the back of the building was worst effected by the flooding, and took the longest time to repair.
