More than £80,000 has been invested to make sure every primary pupil in Clackmannanshire will have a Personal Learning Plan (PLP) in place by 2006.

Already 80% of primary schools have introduced PLPs. A PLP is made up of an agreed set of targets between the pupil, teacher and parent covering many areas of a young person's learning and development.

Menstrie Primary school is the latest to introduce the plans which have all been rubber stamped by teachers and parents.

Dave Jones, Director of Services to People said: "The PLP project has grown from work carried out in Park Community Campus over the past three years and is connected to the roll out of the New Community Schools Initiative. We are committed to developing strong and meaningful connections between home and school and to raising achievement. Now children across the County can take more of an active role in their learning experience by setting their own targets with the help of teachers and parents."

PLPs are made up of targets which are part of the set curriculum but are tailored to meet each pupil's needs. Pupils are encouraged to think about their own learning and set their own targets. A PLP outlines targets for learning and behaviour and also:·records achievement and celebrates success·becomes a personal record that everyone can look back on and remember with pride.

Parents will be kept informed and invited to see and talk about the PLP format, ask questions, put forward ideas and contribute to the content.

Alongside Park, Gartmorn & Delph, the following Primary schools are currently working hard at introducing PLPs in the Infant Stages are Menstrie, Alva, Coalsnaughton, Fishcross, Craigbank(Sauchie), Clackmannan, Sunnyside(Alloa), St. John's (Alloa), St. Mungo's (Alloa), Claremont (Alloa), St.Serf's (Tullibody), Abercromby (Tullibody)
