Families and children from all over the county are gearing up for a brilliant weekend at Gartmorn Dam, with two events in two days, this Saturday and Sunday,18th-19th August.

On each day, during the weekend of family fun, there will be a Family Pond Dip and the chance to take part in the Woodland Mini-Beast Hunt and seek out the mini-beasts that live in the water and on the land. Pond nets trays and viewers will be provided.

Councillor Donald Balsillie, Convenor of the Enterprise and Environment Committee, said: "It will not just be great fun for all the children and families who take part, but will also be educational, and give them the chance to explore the area and understand more about the environment."

It will take place each day between 11.30am and 2.00pm, beginning at the Gartmorn Dam Visitor Centre.

Then on Wednesday, 22nd August, another event will take place at Gartmorn Dam, with a Volunteer Work Day, entitled the Great Gartmorn Dam Clean-Up.

Between 10.30am and 2pm, beginning at the Visitors Centre, everyone in the county, aged 16-years and over are invited to come along and take part.

They are being asked to help the Country Ranger Service with the annual litter pick, which will also include a three mile walk.
