Council funding which will support the creation of a state-of-the-art gymnastics facility for the whole of Clackmannanshire has been agreed.

An additional one-off payment of £24,500 to Alloa Gymnastics Club was agreed at Council today. This is in addition to the £37,000 funding which was already allocated to the club as part of the 2012/13 budget.

Alloa Gymnastics Club in association with WASP Leisure are in advanced discussions with SportScotand regarding funding to develop a new permanent gymnastics facility at Clackmannan Road, Alloa.

The forecast funding from SportScotland is now less then previously anticipated and the additional Council funding is to meet that shortfall, with the anticipation that SportScotland will match the Council's funding.

Councillor Ellen Forson, Education Sport and Leisure Convenor said: "This funding will allow the club to develop a new facility in Alloa which will maintain their position as a leading club of competition level gymnastics. Alloa Gymnastics Club is one of the oldest in Scotland and has around 200 members, many of whom have competed at the highest national and international levels.

"This new facility will be an enormous boost to gymnastics across Clackmannanshire and will act as a catalyst for further gymnastic development in Clackmannanshire, supporting the already very successful pre-school and primary school gymnastic programmes."
