Bowled Over With Success

The first Clackmannanshire inter-schools bowls competition, which took place on Monday 18th June, at Alloa East End Bowling Club, proved to be a resounding success.

Four primary schools; Clackmannan, Tillicoultry, Sunnyside and Strathdevon Primaries were all represented at the event, along with pupils from both Alva and Alloa Academy, an overall total of 26 children taking part..

Education, Sport and Leisure Committee Convenor, Councillor Ellen Forson, said: "This is as a result of the first year of the Wee County Bowls Project. We are delighted that it met with such an excellent turnout of our young school children and also at the high standard of bowls on show."

There were two competitions in the one event, the results of which were:

Competition One -
1st Lewis Hutchison, Sunnyside Primary School; and Conran Bilsland, Clackmannan PS.
2nd Jade Morton, Clackmannan PS; and Taylor Thomson, Clackmannan PS.
3rd = Zaen Imran, Sunnyside PS and Euan MacInnon, Sunnyside PS.
3rd = Keiran Duncan, Clackmannan PS; and Stephanie Daines, Clackmannan PS.

Competition Two -
1st Michael Powrie, Alva Academy; Callum Barker and Lee Duncan, both Alloa Academy.
2nd Rachel Duncan, Tillicoultry PS; David Frew, and Ben McLuckey, both Alloa Academy.

All pupils involved in the competition have been receiving free coaching from their local bowling clubs as part of the new Sports Development & Clackmannanshire Bowling Forum partnership

The sessions have taken place within local schools followed by sessions at the local bowling clubs as part of the Active Schools after schools programmes.
