EllieA St Bernadette's Primary School pupil came third in a competition in which more than 35,000 entries were received from children from all over Scotland.

Ellie, 10, a primary five pupil at St Bernadette's PS, Tullibody, won the bronze medal in a poster competition run by Inspire and Aspire, encouraging children to learn more about the experiences of the London Olympics and Paralympics 2012.

Head Teacher, Tina O'Neill said: "Our P5/6 class teacher Miss McDonald encouraged all pupils in her class to enter the inspire aspire poster competition. Pupils were invited to reflect on the Olympic and Paralympic values."

The values were: respect - fair play; knowing one's own limits; and taking care of one's health and the environment; excellence - how to give the best of oneself, on the field of play or in life; taking part; and progressing according to one's own objectives; and friendship - how, through sport, to understand each other despite any differences.

The Paralympic Values are based on the history of the Paralympic Games and the tradition of fair play and honourable sports competition. They are: courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

The Head Teacher added: "They were to explore each of the values and through their design and a short written piece, demonstrate their understanding. Miss McDonald then choose the top three class entries and sent them in."

Ellie came equal third in the P5 category, a competition which attracted over 35 000 entries from schools throughout the country.

Mrs O'Neill : "We have been delighted with how well the pupils have responded to learning all about the Olympics and Paralympics and have engaged in a variety of learning activities and events including the relay in Alloa. Ellie success is one that fills us with pride and inspires others to continue to be the very best you can be."

Ellie attended the Character Education Awards at Hampden Park in Glasgow along with her parents where she learned of her success and was presented with a prize by 1986 Commonwealth Games 10,000 metres gold medallist Liz McColgan.
