Do you throw away food depending on how it looks or smells?
Do you know the difference between use by and best before dates? Would you like your shopping budget to go further?
These are some of the questions staff from Clackmannanshire Council Environmental Health will be able to advise you on during Food Safety Week , which takes place from 11th-17th June, with the theme "Food Safety On A Budget - Your Fridge is Your Friend", with the emphasis on how to keep food safe while saving money.
Clackmannanshire Council have teamed up with our colleagues in Falkirk and Stirling to hold an event at the new Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert from Monday 11th to Wednesday 13th June between 9am and 4pm.
Experts will be on hand to advise consumers about how to use leftovers safely and we will be able to explain the difference between use by and best before dates.
The health and wellbeing of our people is always at the forefront of our minds. We would encourage as many people as possible to go along and take advantage of all the excellent advise that will be available.
The event will consist of a display, situated at reception and in-between Starbucks and M&S Simply Food, where visitors attending the hospital can ask for advice on food safety, take part in a tombola and pick up leaflets and goodies such as fridge/freezer thermometers and trolley coins.
You can then stop throwing away food unnecessarily while making your shopping budget go further.
At the event you can take part in some activities such as "spot the food safety hazards" and you can have a go at checking the labels of some food items. There will be plenty of giveaways such as fridge/freezer thermometers and trolley coins and there will be a free tombola.
If you are in the area on these dates please come and visit us. The stall will be located at the "Information Area" across from Reception at the Hospital.
Food Safety Week is a national event organised by the Food Standards Agency.
