Two months of singing workshops came to a culmination this week when primary school pupils in the Alva Cluster held two outstanding concerts.

During February and March all primary five and six pupils in the Alva Cluster took part in a series of singing workshops in readiness for two performances, both of which were hailed as a resounding success.

Belinda Greer, Head of Education, announced this week: "Thanks to continued funding from the Scottish Government's Youth Music Initiative, the Council are delighted to confirm we will been able to continue these opportunities for a further year."

Similar events are also planned for the Alloa and Lornshill clusters in the summer term.

Each singing workshop practised and rehearsed tirelessly in the lead up to what were fabulous performances in front of their parents and carers.

The primary five pupils in the Alva Cluster came together for a singing event entitled 'Hoodwinked', a musical tale of Robin Hood. Following a morning session of singing workshops and full rehearsals the children took to the stage at Alva Academy on Tuesday, 20th March, with a full performance in front of parents and carers in the afternoon.

Primary six school children in the Alva Cluster gathered to perform 'The Tempest', a musical work based on Shakespeare's classic.

They too put the finishing touches to their rehearsals with a full morning of singing workshops before the curtain came up for a performance of the musical in front of proud parents and carers in the afternoon. The concert, on Thursday, 22nd March, also took place at Alva Academy.

Music Specialists from the Primary Expressive Arts Team and P5/P6 class teachers have worked in partnership to ensure that all the pupils learned their songs in preparation for the main events.

The performances were only open to parents and carers who had pre-booked places and were issued with free tickets.
