A renewable energy conference attracting attendees from all over Scotland will be hosted by Clackmannanshire Council later this month.

Around 70 professionals working in the renewable energy field will attend the event at Alva's Cochrane Hall on Wednesday 21st March.

Attendees will be welcomed to the event by John Gillespie, the Council's Head of Community and Regulatory Services. He said: "Over dependence on fossil fuels has far reaching consequences which are not just limited to damage to our environment. Depleting gas and oil supplies and an aging electricity network have impacted on the numbers of families who are now considered to be in fuel poverty and the business world has been shaken by direct and indirect costs associated with increasing energy costs.

"Solutions are available in the form of renewable energy, however, like most local authorities, Clackmannanshire has yet to full embrace the concept and produce a long term renewable strategy. This conference is aimed at raising awareness of the opportunities that are available for Clackmannanshire and also securing a commitment to invest resources in developing and producing a long term strategy which will improve the local environment, economy and wellbeing of local residents."

The Council is committed to a number of measures which mean we use resources more efficiently such as our Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy and the Fuel Poverty Strategy.
