Fairtrade Fortnight will be celebrated in Clackmannanshire with an evening of music and dance.

Fairtrade Clackmannanshire, the local steering group that was set up last year, has been holding an art competition for local young people around the theme of Fairtrade olive oil.

And to announce the top entries in the competition, an event will be held at the Claremont Lodge Hotel, Alloa on Thursday 8th March from 7pm. The event will also feature Fairtrade olive grower Abu Kamal, from Palestine, live music and dancing led by the Hillfoots Hobos Ceilidh Band, with dance and traditional music from Palestine

And of course there will be olive oil tasting.

Fairtrade Clackmannanshire is working to make Clackmannanshire a Fairtrade Zone and this event is part of their campaign.

Last month the Council formally declared its commitment to fair trade in support of the group's bid to achieve Fairtrade Zone status for the area.

Depute Provost Janis Paterson is a member of the Fairtrade Zone steering group. She said: "Abu Kamal is an olive farmer from Al Rameh and part of the Palestine Fair Trade Association. I am looking forward to enjoying some Fairtrade olive oil as well as seeing the exhibition of local young people's art."

Leader of Clackmannanshire's Fairtrade Steering Group, John Lamond added: "Palestine is a particularly hazardous place to live and work and over 100,000 Palestinian families depend on the money they earn during the olive harvest. We are delighted that we can raise the Clackmannanshire public's awareness of this issue."
