A recent HMIE inspection carried out at Muckhart Primary School shows that the school is at the forefront of setting high standards in Clackmannanshire.

The inspectors judged the school to be good or very good in all of the twenty two measures used.

Councillor Alison Lindsay, Convener of the Learning and Leisure Committee said: "Staff, pupils and parents have all shown a great amount of commitment to maintain and improve standards and performance at the school.

"It is clear that the school is doing well and like all our primary schools is providing future generations with a very sound base in education."

The HMIE report, published on 21 January, identified the school as having a number of strengths. They include:·The leadership of the head teacher.·The staff commitment to the education and care of pupils.·Support from the School Board and productive partnership with parents.·Staff morale and teamwork.·High standards of attainment by pupils.·The positive ethos and attitudes to pupils and their achievement.

95% of the lessons observed by HMIE were also judged to be good or very good.

They also commended the school's links with its community, noting the joint work with the local heritage association on a plan to redevelop the school grounds.

Headteacher, Norma Hutcheson said: "This report reflects the hard work and the commitment of staff and pupils and the excellent support we receive from parents."

The HMIE report recommended some areas for improvement. The school and the education authority are now working together with pupils and parents to ensure that these areas are addressed in the course of the next two years.

Sandy Wilson, Education and Head of Lifelong Learning said: "This report shows that this is a school of which pupils, parents and all staff have every reason to be proud. The positive ethos and the caring environment, combined with the good levels of attainment of pupils, provide a very good basis for taking forward the points for action."
