Clackmannanshire Council responded to a huge increase in call-outs by its tenants last winter, due to the cold weather, a report to the Council's Scrutiny Committee has revealed. Despite the challenging conditions, overall performance for all categories of repair remained above target.
The Council dealt with 2,351 high priority jobs between 26 November and 29 December 2010 - a 75% increase on the same period in 2009, which was already an increase on 2008. While some other social landlords only processed emergency repairs during the severe weather, Clackmannanshire Council continued to manage all types of repair.
Councillor Carrick, portfolio holder for sustainability, said, "Housing and Property Contracts staff dealt with all sorts of issues during the severe weather, including arranging emergency accommodation for people whose homes were uninhabitable because of burst pipes. I'm very proud of our response last year, when we made every effort to reach people quickly over the festive season.
"We check our empty properties to make sure water is turned off in cold weather and I'd like to remind all our residents of the importance of making sure pipes don't freeze. Tenants should also make sure they have contents insurance, as burst pipes can ruin furniture, clothes and other belongings."
