A budget of £8.256 million will be invested in Clackmannanshire's infrastructure in 2011/12 by the Council.
Capital expenditure pays for permanent improvements such as new buildings and refurbishments and was agreed by councillors today.
Officers have reviewed the previously agreed 2010/11 to 2014/15 capital programme and agreed a revised budget for 2011/12 that reflects the increased capital grant provided by Government but remains restrained to affordable levels in light of the current financial constraints.
The new 2011/12 capital programme will restrict the level of new borrowing as part of the Council's strategy to reduce debt. Councillors also agreed that the Council will use the money gained from the sale of assets to reduce debt.
The programme includes significant developments such as the proposed new primary school replacing St John's and Claremont which is currently subject to consultation, improvements to Alloa Town Hall and the redevelopment of the Speirs Centre in Alloa. In addition, there is continued investment in our roads and footways, particularly in relation to flood prevention, replacement of essential IT equipment and improvements to our primary and nursery schools.
Councillors agreed to cancel the planned development of community facilities in Alva and to postpone the Ochil Landscape Partnership funding.
Council leader Sam Ovens, said: "This is a realistic, affordable and achievable capital programme which aims to deliver continued investment in Clackmannanshire's infrastructure. In addition, the Council will continue to maximise access to external funding sources to order to maximise these opportunities."
