Strathdevon's Primary School's nursery class has a head start on Curriculum for Excellence with their farm topic.
The children were learning about real life situations and worked cooperatively to complete tasks. They have made soup with barley, flapjacks with oats and will make bread with the wheat they have grown. They have opened their own farm shop and the children decided what they required and how to lay it out. Experienced teachers have ensured that the project has developed taking account of the interests of the children.
Photographers are welcome to come along and see the work the children have been doing anytime in the week beginning 4th October. Please call the school to confirm.
Portfolio holder for inclusion, Councillor George Matchett, said "This is a great example of Curriculum for Excellence in action. It shows how a single topic can involve many of the different curricular areas from literacy and language, mathematics, science, social studies, health and wellbeing and expressive arts - just as children will find they need varied skills in all areas of life.
"I'm particularly impressed with the amount of discussion and planning with the pupils. They were asked what they know already and what they would like to find out about, giving them control of their learning and keeping them engaged in the project."
