Clackmannanshire will celebrate the handover of the Commonwealth Games from Delhi to Glasgow on 14 October at Alloa Academy, with sports events in the run up to the big day.

The celebrations kick off on 21 September at West End Park, Alloa, where the Primary Schools Cross Country league will encourage children to compete at athletics. On 2 October, Alloa Academy hosts a special Commonwealth Games multisport programme for young people with Additional Support Needs, enabling everyone to take part.

Hillfoots and Alloa Rugby Clubs are hosting tag and contact rugby for primary school students on 6, 7 and 8 October, while from 11 to 15 October there's free swimming for under 16s at Alloa Leisure Bowl.

The handover culminates on 14 October with free badminton, dance, health checks, clubs, activities and fitness tests at Alloa Academy from 1pm. A stunning live big screen transmission of the closing ceremony from Delhi at 3.30pm will be followed by the release of Indian prayer lanterns to round off Clackmannanshire's celebration.

Spokesperson for Sport and Leisure Councillor Bobby McGill said, "I'm delighted that Clackmannanshire is taking the opportunity to celebrate the handover of the Commonwealth Games to a Scottish city by showcasing the huge variety of sports on offer for all levels of ability in our county. The final event is sure to be a very special day, with lots of activities to try out and a one-off chance to see the closing ceremony at Delhi on the big screen."

The programme is made possible by funding from Events Scotland and participants in the competitions will receive a souvenir medal.
