The Bookbug Library Challenge is a free programme that encourages children aged birth to four to discover and enjoy their local library.
Previously known as Bookstart Book Crawl, the initiative is an exciting way to give children a love of reading for life. Pre-school children can collect stickers and certificates in return for borrowing books from the library.
Each child is given their own Bookbug's Library Challenge collector card and each time they visit the library they receive a sticker. When they have collected four stickers they will receive a lovely limited edition certificate.
The child's name will be written on the certificate to encourage them to feel proud that they have become members of their local library.
You are invited to send a photographer to Alloa Library at 10.30am on Wednesday 15th September for the launch of the Bookbug Library Challenge in Clackmannanshire.
Councillor George Matchett, Inclusion Portfolio Holder, said: "It's never too early to introduce books to babies and young children and the Library Challenge is a great chance for local parents to realise how family friendly libraries are. The earlier youngsters begin to enjoy sharing books, the quicker they will develop their language and listening skills and go on to have a head start in school. There are five different limited edition Library Challenge certificates to collect. So start collecting now - it's never too early or too late to join your local library... and it's free! The Bookbug Sessions are also a great chance to meet other parents."
Within Clackmannanshire, free Bookbug Sessions are run in Alloa Library on Mondays at 10am and on Thursdays at 2pm, at Hillfoots Family Centre on Mondays at 1.30pm, at Clackmannanshire Community Healthcare Centre on Thursdays at 1.30pm and at Sauchie Hall on Fridays at 1.30pm. Bookbug Sessions are fun, free events for children aged birth to four and their parents, incorporating songs, rhymes, books and play.
