Community groups, schools and uniformed organisation are springing into action this month with the support of Council staff as part of Scotland's National Spring Clean Campaign.

The first event took place on the evening of Wednesday 14th April when families and staff from Macdonald's came together to remove rubbish from around the area of Hawkhill Community Centre and Macdonald's in Alloa. They collected over 20 bags of rubbish (pictured below).

Then on Saturday 17th April there was a litter pick-up at the Arns Brae Pleasure Grounds in Alloa and on Monday 19th April locals cleaned up in Dollar in the vicinity of primary school grounds and Market Park.

Both Tillicoultry Primary School and Menstrie Primary School held clean-ups on Wednesday 21st April, picking up rubbish in the area surrounding their buildings.

Pupils from Coalsnaughton Primary School along with the Countryside Ranger Service will be picking up litter in the woodland at Gartmorn Dam today (22nd April) while pupils from Strathdevon Primary School will also be out and about today along the Devon Way in Dollar.

One of the largest spring clean events during the month-long campaign will take place on Saturday 24th April at the Delph Pond in Tullibody. Local groups including the Delph Pond Forum, Tullibody Healthy Living Initiative, Army cadets and local tenants will come together to clean up the pond, which has been named a BBC Breathing Place. Volunteers are encouraged to come along between 11am and 2pm.

And on Sunday 25th April there will be another large-scale clean up in Menstrie when the community council, religious groups, uniformed organisations, school pupils and other community spirited individuals will come together to remove litter in the village. They will gather at the Scout Hall at 1pm before cleaning up along the riverside and in the woods.

On Monday 26th April pupils from Claremont Primary School will be doing a litter-pick in their neighbourhood as will pupils from Alva Academy on the same day.

And on Tuesday 27th April youth groups and uniformed organisations will spring clean Sauchie.

Director of Services to Communities Garry Dallas said: "I would like to thank all the volunteers who have taken part in a litter pick as part of National Spring Clean month. And encourage volunteers to take part in the forthcoming events. Remember the Council will support any community litter clear-up at any time of the year. Just get in touch with us and we'll supply litter pickers, bin bags and gloves. We can also arrange to take bagged rubbish away."
