The Clackmannanshire Council Tag Rugby Festival was at it's best on 2nd April with 19 teams from 11 local primary schools taking part in one of the two TAG rugby festivals. This was the biggest Tag Festival in the county to date, with over 200 primary 6 and 7 boys and girls who enjoyed a fun filled morning of rugby in fantastic playing conditions at the Hillfoots festival.

There was great rugby played at both festivals and a lot of talented players which is a good sign for the future. The children were playing for fun and enjoyment with the ethos of the festivals on fair play. Provost Derek Stewart was present to hand out the awards at the end of the Festival for Best Boy which went to Blair Ivatt (Craigbank Primary) and Best Girl which went to Emily Boyd (Abercromby Primary), these players demonstrated good rugby skill, team work and fair play throughout. The Sportsmanship Award went to Erin Love (Fishcross Primary) who showed a positive attitude to all players and officials and fair play during games.

The great day was rounded off in ferocious style when Falkirk RFC player, Daz Kapene, who is from New Zealand, performed the Haka war dance with all the children getting a chance to try it for themselves.

Both festivals were a great success and Ben Hanvey, Rugby Development Officer, thanked pupils, teachers and Clackmannanshire Council Sport Development Team for all their effort and input on the days. He said: "We hope to see as many of the pupils as possible down at either of the clubs mini sections at Alloa or Hillfoots RFC. There are a number of Club Festivals coming up soon which will be a chance to play and enjoy more rugby."

To become involved with the Central Rugby Festivals just attend one of the training sessions at Alloa or Hillfoots RFC and you could be playing in the next festival at the end of April.
