Birth Rate Rise Continues

The birth rate in Clackmannanshire continues to rise, according to the latest provisional official statistics.

There were 644 newborns registered in Clackmannanshire in 2008, the highest number recorded in the county since 1995. This was the 4th highest birth rate in Scotland.

There were 332 males and 312 females born.

The General Register Office for Scotland also recorded that there were 515 deaths in Clackmannanshire in 2008. This was the 3rd consecutive year there were more recorded births and deaths. There were 256 male and 259 female deaths.

There were 176 marriages recorded in Clackmannanshire in 2008, compared to 179 in 2007. The number of marriages taking place annually in Clackmannanshire has remained steady since 2004, however there has been an overall decrease of 15% since 1996.

There were 5 civil partnerships registered in Clackmannanshire in 2008.
