Trading Standards staff in Clackmannanshire have been advised by colleagues in a neighbouring Authority that they have become aware of a number of traders calling unannounced on local consumers and attempting to sell them three-piece suites.
It is quite possible that these traders will also carry out visits in this area and we would caution consumers to be extremely careful in dealing with traders who approach them in this manner.
While the three-piece suites for sale appear to be a bargain, the downside to the transaction tends to appear at a later date when faults develop and attempts to complain to the seller are impossible as he cannot be traced. Trading Standards are also concerned that the suites may not comply with consumer safety legislation and examples of the suites are currently being tested to establish whether or not they are safe.
