There will be freebies and giveaways galore at an event this week including a chance to win an energy efficient kettle.

Council staff will be joined by representatives of a number of environmental organisations at a consultation drop-in session being held in the East Vennel, Alloa, on Thursday 25th September.

The event is a chance for members of the public to have their say on the Council's draft Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy. From flooding and climate change to transport and protecting wildlife the strategy covers a huge range of issues that affect everyone.

Those attending the drop-in session will be asked to fill in a pledge card promising to make a small lifestyle change. The cards will then be used in a prize draw, with the chance to win one of five energy efficient kettles.

The event is being held from 11am to 5pm and there will also be the chance to pick up tips on how to reduce your fuel bills, receive a free energy saving light bulb and recipes that encourage you to use up leftovers rather than throw them away.

Councillor Eddie Carrick, Portfolio Holder for Sustainability, said: "Looking after the environment is an important part of creating sustainable communities. But sustainable planning for the future cuts across all sorts of issues - including what we buy, how we travel and how we regenerate the local economy. I'm proud that Clackmannanshire is the first local authority in Scotland to publish a Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy."

There will be a photo opportunity at 4pm on Thursday 25th September, when Councillor Eddie Carrick will attend the event in the East Vennel, Alloa.

The Council has posted copies of the Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy to key stakeholders. It is also available in libraries and Council offices and can be downloaded from the council website, www.clacksweb.org.uk, or picked up at the consultation event.

Note to Editor

The venue is a vacant shop unit next door to Domino's Pizza.
