The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) plans to open a National Wildlife Rescue Centre near Dollar in Clackmannanshire.

The SSPCA has bought an 180 acre site at Castleton Farm and the Council anticipates that a planning application for the centre will be submitted in the near future.

The development would be a national centre for the Scottish SPCA where injured wild animals could be taken for rehabilitation until they are well enough to be released back into the wild.

Councillor Eddie Carrick, the Council's Sustainability Portfolio Holder said: "This is an exciting proposal which further demonstrates the attractiveness of Clackmannanshire as a location with good transport links which offers an excellent quality of life. I am pleased that a national organisation with such a high profile has chosen to make Clackmannanshire the home for its new centre."

"Clackmannanshire is a very attractive area with its own wide diversity of wildlife," said Stuart Earley, Chief Executive of the Scottish SPCA. "Its central location is ideal for a national Wildlife Centre and we look forward to working closely with Clackmannanshire Council on this and other issues."

It is anticipated that the centre, if given the go ahead, will employ around a dozen staff.
