On Saturday 30 August people will have the chance to make money for a local good cause and pick up a free bag of compost at Forthbank Recycling Centre. Clackmannanshire Council is organising the event from 11am to 3pm, and will be on hand, along with a representative from Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), to demonstrate the variety of ways in which householders can reduce, reuse and recycle waste.
Free compost will be available on a first come, first served basis, while a small number of composting bins will also be available in return for a small donation. Come along and find out how to turn your unwanted food and garden waste into valuable compost.
Integrated Waste Manager Graeme Cunningham explained, "You can recycle all sorts of goods at Forthbank - not just glass, paper and plastic but also electrical items, phones, books, drinks cartons and even bikes! As well as all the material that can be recycled, we also get a lot of items, which have been dumped, that are in good condition and could be reused."
Rather than landfilling these items, the team will be making them available to the public for a donation. Attendance is free and you are invited to come along and help raise money for charity as well as provide a good home to items that are still very much reusable. The proceeds will be going to Strathcarron Hospice, which provides free specialist palliative care.
