Get your hands dirty for a good cause and join local volunteers to give the cycling and walking route through Gartmorn Dam Country Park a makeover.

Clackmannanshire's Countryside Rangers organise a range of events every year, with two happening next weekend at Gartmorn Dam.

The Rangers are keen to promote their Work Days - a chance to improve your fitness, meet new people and give something back to the local environment.

The next Work Day takes place on Saturday 16th August and the Rangers are looking for volunteers to help cut back overhanging branches and vegetation, and clear litter and debris, from the country park's paths in order to make it more attractive for local walkers and cyclists.

Tools, safety kit and refreshments will be provided and everyone will be made welcome. Meet at the visitor centre at 1pm.

Then on Sunday 17th August, local families can join the Rangers for a Minibeast Hunt and create an insect hibernation hotel - a chance to discover the many species of insects that call the park their home.

Come along and help the Rangers hunt in the undergrowth for marvellous minibeasts. From wiggly worms to lovely ladybirds, who knows what you might find. You can also help to make a 'hotel' to help insects survive the winter. Insects like to live on piles of rotting wood and in piles of leaves and long grass. Creating these areas not only helps insects to survive the winter, but other animals like voles and hedgehogs.

The event runs from 1.30pm until 3pm and participants should meet at Gartmorn Dam Visitor Centre.

A programme of all the events organised by the Countryside Rangers is available in a leaflet - Ranger Events and Walks 2008 - in local offices or by calling 01259 452478.
