Clackmannanshire Ranger Service and the John Muir Trust are hosting a four day, free Challenge Week from Monday 11th August to Thursday 14th August. Each day, the group will complete a number of fun conservation challenges that will contribute towards an internationally recognised John Muir Award. To be eligible for the award children must attend all four days.
The week's activities will include:
While all the time keeping an eye out for local wildlife. The event will culminate in a 'tribal gathering' with woodland games and toasting marshmallows.
'Base camp' for the adventure will be Gartmorn Dam, Clackmannanshire's country park and nature reserve, where the woods and water are home to many species including otters and kingfisher.
The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme focused on wild places. It encourages the discovery and conservation of wild places, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration. It is named after the Scot John Muir, one of the world's most influential conservationists, who set up the world's first national park and was committed to 'putting something back' into wild places.
