Clackmannanshire Council has shown its continuing commitment to investing in it's housing stock with the completion of a two year refurbishment programme for the sheltered housing accommodation at Curlers Court in Dollar.
The project, which cost almost £300,000 was carried out over two phases, with all internal design work being undertaken in-house by the Council's Property and Design Services.
Phase 1 was completed in April 2006 and involved the fitting of new low level access showers and modern kitchens. Full rewiring, including the fitting of new sockets, was carried out to bring the properties up to modern standards. New glass panel interior doors were fitted at the request of tenants which make their homes brighter. All properties were re-decorated throughout and new linoleum was fitted in kitchens and bathrooms and fitted carpets throughout the rest of the houses.
The 12 tenants affected were temporally relocated while the work was carried out to nearby properties to minimise disruption.
Phase 2 focused on the external areas and each house was re-rendered and all wood work painted. New roofs were fitted to each of the 11 houses. This work was completed recently.
Curlers Court resident Johanna Hutton was delighted with the improvements carried out to her home.
She said: "Clackmannanshire Council has made big improvements to my home. I feel my home is now more comfortable and my heating bills have reduced due to the new roof. It is now much easier for me to use the shower. My kitchen is bright and modern with plenty of storage space.
"During my decant I did not experience any difficulties. I was very pleased with the way the Council handled the move for me. The Tenant Liaison Officer involved was very considerate and helpful."
Councillor Sam Ovens, Regeneration Portfolio Holder, said: "The completion of the refurbishment of Curlers Court is tremendous news for the tenants there, who were closely consulted on their needs and wishes. The complex now looks modern inside and out. The rooms are well lit and comfortable and the changes are popular with the tenants. We can be proud of the work done here, and that it has been achieved by the Council's own staff."
